Taylor County Resident Sentenced for Being a Felon in Possession of Ammunition
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On March 12, 2012, James Leroy Meek, Jr., age 48, a resident of Bedford, Iowa, was sentenced to 46 months imprisonment for being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. Southern District of Iowa Chief Judge James Gritzner also ordered Meek to serve a two year term of supervised release following incarceration.
Meek entered a guilty plea on December 6, 2011, to the charge of being a Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition, and agreed to forfeit to the United States over 4000 rounds of ammunition found during a search of his residence in April of 2010. Meek had previously been convicted in Taylor County, Iowa, of the crime of furnishing precursor drugs for unlawful purposes.
The investigation was conducted by the Taylor County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, Bedford, Iowa, Police Department, Adams County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
